Jia Yaw was invited to speak on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) opportunities in Selangor that contribute regionally to ASEAN.
Held annually by the Selangor State Government, the Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC) highlights Selangor’s role in driving economic prosperity in the ASEAN region through strategic connectivity and resilience. This year, SABC 2024 was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 25 to 26 July 2024. Speakers from around ASEAN were invited to share their insights on challenges and opportunities for local and regional economic growth.
Jia Yaw participated as a panellist for the panel discussion entitled “Selangor, Gateway to ASEAN: Shaping the Regional Economic Landscape”. The panel aimed to evaluate how ESG practices contribute to ASEAN’s regional sustainability and carbon neutrality efforts which is in line with the ASEAN Strategy for Carbon Neutrality, to explore the influence of ESG’s social principles on investment choices and how they drive sustainable development within ASEAN, as well as to address the challenges and opportunities in mobilising financial resources for ESG initiatives.
The panel discussion was moderated by Amir Isyam Abdul Rahim, Managing Director of IM Possible Solutions. Joining Jia Yaw were Dr. Renard Siew (Group Head of Corporate Sustainability, Yinson) and Huynh Cong Thang (Co-Founder and CEO of Innovation Lab Company Limited).
Jia Yaw participated in his capacity as the Co-chair of the Malaysian CSO-SDG Alliance. He spoke about the importance of involving civil society in shaping the economic agenda. A more inclusive perspective will significantly improve the framing of ESG issues, translating into the improved impact of policy interventions.
