Juliet Jacobs reached out to Jia Yaw to discuss the UN General Assembly's historic recognition of this right just as we were rolling out our campaign to get our MPs to pledge to recognise it in future legislations.
On 31st July 2022, BFM's producer, Juliet Jacobs couldn't have called us at a better time to ask to discuss the United Nations General Assembly's landmark resolution declaring access to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment a universal human right on her next Earth Matters segment.
It was a day before Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Shad Saleem Faruqi (Tunku Abdul Rahman Chair, University of Malaya) and I were going to Parliament House to meet with a group of members of Parliament to discuss climate action (pursuant to an event organised by the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights), and also to roll out a spontaneous campaign to get MPs to pledge to recognise our right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in all future legislations and amendments to the Federal Constitution.
So, of course we were delighted to discuss what the UNGA declaration meant, and why it is significant to Malaysia and its future.
Listen to Juliet's interview with Prof. Shad and me here.
