Sweden took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union beginning from 1st January 2023
To celebrate the occasion, the Swedish Embassy in Malaysia held an evening reception with its friends and partners at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre on the evening of 12th January 2023.
It was a well-attended event, with probably more than 300 people. As the Swedish Embassy's partner in moving the needle on sustainability, we had the honour of an invitation.
We met many friends and allies from the chambers of commerce, human rights circles, the EU Delegation to Malaysia, the UN country team, academia, legal fraternity and foreign dignitaries. The transport minister, YB Anthony Loke, and youth and sports deputy minister, YB Adam Adli were also in attendance.
In his speech, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia, H.E. Dr. Joachim Bergström emphasised Sweden's strong commitment towards addressing climate change and sustainable development. He noted that the green energy transition will be greatly prioritised during Sweden's presidential term.
We have, in our collaboration with the Swedish Embassy, Business Sweden and the wider Swedish community such as the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights & Law (RWI), experienced first hand this commitment.
Indeed, we look forward to stronger collaborations and partnerships with the conscious aim of raising the sustainable development agenda.
