Join this 'big national discussion' by SUHAKAM and CERAH on haze pollution

Tuesday, 8 March 2022

This roundtable discussion will be a process for SUHAKAM to develop suitable recommendations to address the systemic gaps that allow haze pollution to persist

Following the CERAH Coalition's 7 December 2021 haze pollution complaint to SUHAKAM, the national human rights commission of Malaysia is organising a roundtable discussion with all relevant stakeholders, including members of the public, on 9th and 11th March 2022. This is being co-organised with the CERAH Coalition.

This will be a hybrid event, held on the Zoom platform as well as at the Sunway Putra Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. With the pandemic restrictions, in-person attendance is by invitation only.

The purpose of the roundtable will be to obtain inputs from subject matter experts and stakeholders across the public, private and third sectors. These inputs will be important to help SUHAKAM make appropriate findings and recommendations to address the myriad of issues involved.

The recommendations will be along the following themes:

a. strengthening the recognition of environmental rights in Malaysia

b. strengthening air quality governance in Malaysia

c. strengthening the governance of transboundary haze pollution

d. strengthening Business and Human Rights in Malaysia
